Where Shadows Wait …

He walked fast.
His face was hidden.
He pulled the collar of his coat up to cover himself.
Stressed.
Uneasy.

He threw quick glances around him,
his steps growing longer, faster.

It felt like midnight.
The streetlights flickered one after another,
as if taking turns to breathe.
The shadows owned the city.

A monster made of fear wrapped itself around his chest.
His eyes sharpened, scanning every corner.

A sound.

He stopped.
The sound disappeared.

He took a few steps.

There it was again.

The noise grew louder with each step he took—
closer,
closer,
closer.

No time.
He had to run.
He slipped into a darker alley, hoping to escape.

But too late.

The shadow was already there.

In a single heartbeat,
nothing remained of him
except a pair of torn, abandoned shoes…
